Term Definition
Tallgrass Prairie

A tallgrass prairie is a grassland ecosystem dominated by native grasses and wildflowers that typically grow 4 to 10 feet (1.2 to 3 meters) tall. Tallgrass prairies once covered millions of acres across central North America, especially in the Midwest, where deep, fertile soils supported diverse plant and animal communities.
