Native Plants to the People

Native Plants to the People
Native Plants to the People is a small, community-focused native plant nursery based on James Island in Charleston, South Carolina. The nursery’s approach emphasizes habitat restoration and the ecological value of native flora. By growing and distributing plants adapted to local conditions, it supports the creation of wildlife-friendly gardens that conserve water and reduce chemical inputs. These efforts align with broader conservation movements promoting native horticulture as a tool for community-level environmental stewardship.

Native Plants to the People LLC produces a diverse selection of regionally appropriate native species. It provides seasonal plant sales—mainly in spring and fall—through pop-up events held at rotating Charleston-area locations and through an online pre-order system. Customers can pre-pay and collect plants either at designated events or via pick-up from James Island.
