Understanding Plant Provenance

Plant provenance refers to the original source location of the plant material that was collected for propagation. The reason this matters is that some species have very broad natural ranges that cover several very different ecoregions. The populations of some of these species have developed adaptations to their environment at a genetic level even though they are outwardly identical. Plant provenance is particularly important for ecological restoration and conservation.

When possible purchase or aquire your plants and seeds from local sources.
